How We Can Meet Your Needs
We offer several modes of counseling so that your needs are met in which ever modality fits you best.
Individual
Counseling
Want to speak one-on-one with a counselor? You can set up an intake appointment and agree to a frequency of how often you will meet after that.
Marital Counseling
& Relationship Issues
For issues that arise between couples, our counselors are prepared to meet with both members for couples therapy together. This can, of course, be combined with separate, individual counseling.
Private or
Small Groups
Feel that you would find relief working with others experiencing the same challenges as you? You can join one of our small group therapy sessions or set up a private group to tackle a specific issue like bereavement or eating disorder recovery.
Diagnoses We Treat
Some of the diagnoses or issues we treat include:
Anxiety
For those experiencing a pervasive sense of dread or constant alertness, counseling can provide significant benefits. Not only can it be helpful to figure out where the anxiety is coming from, but we will also practice coping methods to deal with anxiety in everyday life.
Social Anxiety
A specific type of anxiety, social anxiety affects social interactions and may be accompanied by persistent intrusive thoughts related to socialization. Affecting family relationships, friendships, and love lives, those who experience social anxiety may find themselves increasingly isolated.
However, there are ways to cope with social anxiety and tackle intimidating situations. Counseling can help you practice these events and find ways to reduce your anxiety so that you can live your life again.
Panic Attacks
Panic attacks often arise seemingly out of nowhere. Once you experience one, it may become difficult to live as you normally did out of fear of experiencing another one.
Panic attacks are not dangerous to your health, but they are disruptive. There are many therapeutic approaches to both reducing their frequency and coping when they occur.
Depression
Though depression is often thought to be a type of sadness, a more significant hallmark is an absence of emotion and interest. Activities and events that once brought you joy no longer do. Your body hurts, your weight changes, and you may feel tired all of the time.
Coping with depression via counseling can help you develop some strategies to keep living on difficult days. Speaking with a therapist can also allow you to make a plan for if your depression suddenly worsens and you need urgent assistance.
OCD
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often identified by a combination of difficult-to-resist obsessions and compulsions. Those experiencing OCD may have significant anxiety, but this can be reduced using modes of treatment such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Exposure and Ritual Prevention (ERP).
Counseling can also help you deal with the emotional aspect of having an OCD diagnosis.
PTSD & Trauma
Recovering from a traumatic event can be a confusing process and you might feel alone. Whether your symptoms have progressed to a level diagnosable as PTSD or not, you may find yourself feeling a combination of anxiety and depression, as well as constantly revisiting your traumatic event.
Counseling cannot change the past, but it can help you look forward to the future again.
Gifted & Twice-Exceptional
Students who are gifted or twice-exceptional (gifted alongside a learning difference) endure unique challenges and emotional needs. We are prepared to meet their needs and offer them alternative processes for dealing with the challenges they encounter in life and academics.
Counseling Might Be "Near You" But...
Sometimes it's hard to make it to a recurring appointment. It's not just the hour you spend in the office, but also the time you need to take off work to get there and the time you spend in traffic on the way. Just for this reason, Kenosis Counseling Center offers online sessions as well.
