What is Counseling Like?
Entering counseling is an act of courage, not one of weakness. Michael Phelps, Oprah Winfrey, and Emma Stone have all been in counseling. These are powerful, strong individuals, who had an issue that was tough enough to require outside expertise to overcome. Contrary to popular opinion, most therapy clients are successful, high-achieving people who are quite healthy overall.
When you enter into counseling, you form a partnership with your counselor. Together, the two of you will create a plan to address the issue(s) you are facing. Therapy, these days, is highly interactive. At the beginning of a session, the therapist typically invites you to share what’s been going on in your life, what’s on your mind, what goals you’d like to discuss. You’ll be invited to speak openly. The therapist will listen, then give expert feedback based on their experience and training. You won’t be criticized, interrupted or judged as you speak. Anything you want—or need—to say is OK. And everything you share is kept confidential, unless you are a harm to yourself or another. Please fill out the contact form below. We will email you actionable, free information on your exact topic of interest.
