“The hardest thing to do is leaving your comfort zone. But you have to let go of the life you’re familiar with and take the risk to live the life you dream about.” – T. Arigo

Alyssa Hatfield, MSW, LCSW
Psychotherapist

Alyssa is known for taking an eclectic approach and tailoring therapy to the individual’s needs and incorporating the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy (SFT), motivational interviewing (MI) and person-centered therapy. She is also passionate about being able to offer mental health services by use of telehealth services, which widens the reach for therapy and removes some of the obstacles of obtaining help such as driving/distance. Not only does she help clients identify obstacles that hinder them from reaching their goals, but she also helps them generate solutions towards them. Alyssa is also known for her ability to connect easily and make clients feel at ease with her eccentric personality, sense of humor, and constant butchering of sayings, which is a quirk of hers, but one she has learned to embrace. Alyssa also has experience working with various and diverse backgrounds, and understands the importance of being a provider who is sensitive to the needs of various groups of people.

Alyssa was born and raised in Indiana and attended the Indiana University School of Social Work program, earning her Master Degree of Social Work with a focus on mental health and addictions. Prior to pursuing her master’s degree, Alyssa earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Indiana University- Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 2013, and then worked as a group facilitator for two years at a small practice in Greenwood helping people who struggled with substance use disorders.

Alyssa also has experience working with older adolescents through older adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, self-esteem, substance abuse, PTSD, life transitions/adjustments, as well as chronic pain and chronic health conditions. She helps her clients focus on the present and transform their pain into purpose, but at the same time, also understands the need to process and share their story to heal, so they can find meaning. Her passion is to continue to work with people to improve their quality of life by teaching them how to cope in healthier ways and give them the opportunity to process and learn these skills in a safe space with someone who genuinely cares.

During her free time, she likes to spend time with her cats, go on walks with her husband, and do yoga. She also likes to push herself out of her comfort zone and try new things, including learning a martial art in the near future. She practices what she preaches, because the coping skills and process of counseling works when paired with the right provider, and tailored to where the client is at when it comes to working towards making a change.
